Weekly Update - The Heralding of the New Season - Week 1

Mon, 01 Sep 2025, 12:09

Welcome to the first weekly mail of the new season. Whilst most people have hopefully been sunning themselves over the summer, there has been loads of work going on behind the scenes. From pitch watering and marking, DBS checks, coaching recruitment and planning, sponsorship and external events - we are literally a club that doesn’t sleep and a huge thanks to everyone who has helped get us ready for this season.

So we’re kicking off on Saturday with 1st XV away against local rivals Aylesbury and 2nds away against Reading. Both sides won their respective friendlies on Saturday and have had a very productive pre-season with numbers at training averaging around 50 players. I watched some of Aylesbury pre-season friendly on Saturday vs London Welsh. They went down 19-0 after 20 mins but came back against a strong Welsh side to win 41-31. Saturday is bound to be a belter. Kick off for both matches at 3pm.

This season our Women’s team play in a league for the first time, kicking off also versus Aylesbury, at home on 5th October. You may have seen the announcement of the appointment of Poppy Cleall and Connie Powell, as Head Coaches of the ladies, both England internationals. This is a huge statement of intent and displays our ambitions to really cement our women’s team as a permanent fixture at Beaconsfield. There is a preseason friendly arranged vs Taplow away on 20th September, kick off at 10am. All women’s matches will be played on a Sunday. If anyone is interested in joining some training sessions please do reach out to Wendy Boyd our ladies Chair (ladieschair@beaconsfieldrfc.uk).

On Sunday (7th) we have our first mini and junior training sessions at the club, starting at 10am. I’ve attached a map showing where each age groups are training and any questions please go to your respective Age Group Manager (AGM) in the first instance. RFU compliance is key and all players throughout the club, from U5s up to Vets, have to be registered on the RFU system, GMS. Your AGM will be leading the charge on this but please note this is a mandatory requirement.

If anyone has any old kit they want to donate we will be collecting in the clubhouse from this Sunday. We will also be running a secondhand sale on Sunday 28th September, covering anything from training kit, shirts, bags and boots. Additionally Hawkinsports will be down on Sunday 21st selling the full range of BRFC impressive stash.

Finally the first 1st XV home match is vs Marlow on the 13th. Marlow also have had a strong pre-season and this is looking like a cracking derby match. Details of the pre-match lunch will be issued tomorrow.

Super excited about the season ahead - any questions please shout (chair@beaconsfieldrfc.uk)
