Weekly Roundup: Women Lose but a Strong Day for the Juniors

Mon, 17 Nov 2025, 12:43

Women Lose at Reading Abbey:

Unfortunately our Women’s team lost 29-0 against a strong Reading Abbey side yesterday. Reading are one of the strongest sides in the region and this result needs to be put into context as they recently beat Aylesbury 61-0 and A&C 45-0. Given this is our first completive season, its was a solid performance by our ladies. The feedback I received was that it was a brave performance and we raised our game to match their physicality. A couple of weeks rest and recuperation now until a festival at Aylesbury on Sunday 30th November.

Sunday Junior Rugby Results:

A number of successes for our junior sides yesterday with both our U13 sides beating two Henley sides, 20-15 & 35-20. The U13s definitely appear to be progressing nicely with great numbers on a Sunday and a strong coaching and playing squad.

The U15s had a fine win against a physical Camelot (Hemel Hempstead), winning 50-17. They used the width well and stretched Hemel from side to side on a couple of occasions to score some fine tries. Defence was also a big plus too with some large lads, one in particular, who required more than one tackler to bring him down.

Finally the Colts had a strong win against Grasshoppers, winning 40-0. A special mention to young prop George Stead (pictured) who scored a hat-trick all coming in the first 15 minutes - reminds me of a certain other Irish player this weekend!

Friday Nights Quiz is Sold Out:

Very much looking forward to this event and a huge shout out to Nick Stroud who I know has been putting considerable research into this quiz and to Zoe Crone for all her organising. Arrive from 6.45pm and a prompt start to proceedings for 7:30pm

Saturday Rugby Recommences:

The 1st XV are playing league leaders Brunel University away at 2:30pm. This is a highly anticipated fixture. Brunel have been sweeping all before them so it’s a real litmus test for our young side and their league ambitions. If you are about, please support them. I’m sure Henry and the team will be highly appreciative.

The 2nd XV also continue their league campaign and are away against Henley, kick off at 2:30pm.

Final Week of International Rugby:

After last weekends superb victory over the All-Blacks this Sunday we see England playing Argentina. All matches including Saturdays Wales v All Blacks and Ireland vs Springboks are on live at the club.

Lunch Sold Out on the 29th November:

We don’t often have to put up Sold Out signs for lunches but the 29th November is fully sold out. As well as a number of Sponsors attending, the day has proven to be particularly popular so apologies to any of our regular lunch goers that have missed out.

Our Christmas lunch is now available for booking and is already over 50% sold. So if keen please do book early as this is also a popular event and will likely sell out quickly. (See website for booking details)

One Can Trust:

Finally we have partnered with One Can Trust this season and yesterday we had a fabulous response to our appeal for children’s clothing. A huge thanks to everyone who donated. Please keep an eye out for more appeals.

Hope everyone enjoys the nice Autumnal weather this week, proper rugby weather!!
