I trust that you have all enjoyed your Summer, which looking out of my window, appears to have come to a close!
Yesterday, I went to watch the first pre-season game, away at A&C. With summer holidays etc, we had 18 players available, against around 25 from A&C. Obviously it was a tough afternoon! However, the players responded brilliantly and played with real heart and a great attitude and should be very proud of themselves as should our new Head Coach, Tom French. If last year is anything to go by, there will be something the the BFP from A&C on their magnificent victory, but read it with the above in mind, it was unquestionably a morale victory for BRFC!
The next date for your diary, is the 31st August when we will host Drybrook RFC at home for our last pre-season match at 3pm. Do try and come down so that we can get the season underway with a bang.
The Youth and Minis will be back the following day on 1st September!
Off the pitch, the kitchen renovations are going well and we are still confident that they will be ready for the start of the season, it will be tight, but fingers crossed. The work is being carried out by Richmere Construction Ltd. (https://richmereltd.com ) known to us as Dave Rendell. The electrics are being done by Kennett Electrics (https://kennettelectrics.com ) or Dave Kennett as we know him. Other club members are being employed in different roles, so not only do we get a great price and quality, but the work is going to valued club members.
Very sadly, Russ Whitlock, our very highly valued Mini Chairman of 4 years, is having to step down from the role due to pressures of work. We are all aware of the fantastic work that Russ does, but it is not until you have to find a replacement that you truly understand the sheer amount of work that Russ has undertaken on our behalf. I would like to say a huge thank you to Russ and also Marianne, for the work they have done and wish them all the very best for the future and look forward to welcoming them at the club whenever time allows.
I am delighted to inform you of the following set up, which I am confident will enhance both the Committee and the youth/mini set up.
John Stevens, a life long (and still current) player and youth coach is now our Data Officer. John will take on full responsibility for the function of MyChq and GMS.
Dave Rendell, who was appointed as Youth Chairman at the AGM, will also take on the role of Mini Chairman. This combined role, is nothing new, it was always the case until it was split between Russ and Tony, then Gommo about 4 years ago. Obviously it is no small task, so we have put the following in place to assist Dave, and he has promised that he will ask for assistance as he needs it. If he asks, please do give him your assistance!
Sundays - Giles Oakley, Coaching Co-Ordinator, will take on the bulk of the responsibility for getting prepared, opening containers etc. Between he and Dave, they will communicate the Parking and Kitchen Rota and will also set up a new one for ensuring containers etc are closed up.
Festivals - Richard Wilson will run all festivals including Mini Festivals and Fireworks. This is a huge job and Richard will call upon people to assist as required.
