What a fantastic start to the season this weekend.
In g;glorious sunshine, the 1st XV took on Trowbridge at home. Having lost to them twice last season and with a completely new coaching team and a very young side, featuring 10 recent BRFC Colts, we really didn't know what to expect against a large and experienced side.
What we got was the enthusiasm of youth and the with huge hearts and a great team spirit. Some of the rugby was just exceptional leading to a 34-28 bonus point win on our first outing. With 2 all tries coming through the backs, but 2 of them of exceptional line out drives, the expectations for the season, just went up a notch!
The pre-match lunch was very well attended and included guests from the U13's coaches, who certainly appeared to enjoy themselves.
The sun was still out on Sunday, and we had an excellent turnout from all age groups followed by our welcome BBQ. Sundays highlight has to be that we had a dozen young ladies back at training under Head Coach Kevin Hickman (aka Trout), whose ambition is to ensure that they all enjoy their Sunday mornings and leave with a smile! If you know of any girls aged 13-18, who would like to come along, do please encourage them, they will have fun.
Due to its huge popularity last season, we will be continuing TOUCH FOR ALL, on Tuesdays at 18:30 from this week. This will be under the leadership of email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org so please contact them for details.
Next Saturday the ones are away to Wimborne, a very hospitable club in Dorset, where we won our first match last season. Do try and get down if you can, it makes a big difference to the players having support on the side line. The 2's will be opening up their season, away to Reading Abbey and the 3's will be at home to Welwyn in their opening fixture of the season, so plenty of rugby for all.
That's all for now, have a great week and see you on the Touchline.
