29-10 win over local rivals Marlow
2XV vs Marlow
The 2s got their season off to a flyer on Saturday after a comprehensive 29-10 win over local rivals Marlow. The game started off at a frantic pace with the ball spending time in both 22s, before beaconsfield started to exercise some control, which led to a break by Ken Kavenagh who gave a well timed offload for Dan Wilson to dot down, the extras followed by James Mclaughlan. The team then turned off, and Marlow managed to take advantage and score a try of their own down the other end. Beaconsfield worked hard and the pack started to dominate collisions again which created an overlap on the left wing giving Lawri J-S a run in to the line, again the extras followed from James. As the half went on both teams gave numerous penalties away at the breakdown creating a rather scrappy affair. The moment of the match came on the back of one of these incidents, beaconsfield had free ball which debutant Niall McCarthy jinked like all good scrum halves do to give Ben Logan and Alex Spring space down the right hand side to run in a well worked third of the day.
The start of the second half was one to forget for Beaconsfield as Marlow resorted to strong fowards play, putting a strain on our defence. The pressure eventually told and Marlow scored out on the wing to bring the scores closer together. Eventually beaconsfield woke up and began to dominate proceedings once again, another Ken Kavanagh break took beaconsfield into the 22, with Marlow on the back foot they conceded a penalty in front of the posts which was shockingly missed by James (punishment was dealt out after the match and extra kicking practice has been pencilled in for next week). However anger turned to joy when beaconsfield regathered the ball and some smart hands gave Stephen Roth the opportunity to score in the corner and bring up the bonus point. The boys at this point started to enjoy the match a bit more with some fantastic runs from both Nialls, Rick O'Mahony and Andy Galligan, making space for what could have been more tries had some of the passing gone to hand. There was however one last score for Beaconsfield when Junior Ribs (Callum breckenridge) pick up a wayward pass from Alex to score in the corner!
It was a fantastic win for the boys and a great start to the season. Man of the match went to young Niall McCarthy who helped run the show at 9. Back of the match Dan Wilson and Ben Logan was forward of the Match AGAIN!
