Dramatic Late Minute Winner for Beaconsfield
Beaconsfield 28-23 Old Centralians
Mike Eagle: Press Officer
An afternoon of excitement, commitment from both sides and a finale of the push over try (which turned out to be a penalty try) in the last minute turned this game from a possible defeat into a win with a 4 try bonus point for the home side. Probably the best performance by a Beaconsfield side for along time full of intensity and passion.
The game began with the visitor's intent being shown straight away leading an attack but they soon realised that Beaconsfield could defend and retaliate with a push back into their 22. This play continued with Centralians being kept in their own half.
The ball was then kicked into the Beaconsfield 22 resulting in a scrum the game was now being played at a hectic pace with the visitor's trying to attack on both wings using their speed and quick to the breakdowns in the game this continued and they eventually squeezed over in the left corner 0-5.
Centralians quick passing and the ability to off load was keeping this game very fast, they also turned the ball in from the wings with great effect. then with good vision Ryan Morgan took the ball deep in his own half and ran it in for Beaconsfield's first try in the left corner , with Aled Lewis's conversion the score moved to 7-5.
From a 5 metre attack Centralians were then pushed back into their own half with another of Aled's precision kicks, this time down the right. But they then pushed the home side back to their line and after a sustained number of phases went over on the right this time for 7-12. It was now 2 minutes from half time.
Second half began with a centre scrum from an incorrect kick off, from here they attacked the right wing with a put in on Beaconsfield's 22. which resulted them being pinned down under more pressure but they eventually got the ball out and kicked down field for a line out which gave Dan Cady the opportunity to go over in the right corner, try not converted this time, score equal 12-12.
Centralians replied with a quick penalty 12-15. Then from a scrum in the home side's 22 they went blind with the ball down the right but the referee then brought play back to an infringement on the right to restart play. At this point Beaconsfield were having to work very hard in defence due to the fluidity of play from the visitor's in front of the posts. The referee then awarded another penalty in front of the posts taking the score on to 12-18.
Beaconsfield moved the ball into the Centralians half but play was halted due to an injure. From this point the visitor's then worked hard for their next try which was not converted 12-23. This was a crucial time for the home team having to dig deep and finding that last bit of energy to stay in the game.
Beaconsfield did exactly that, they then won a scrummage 15 metres out from the line and pushed Centralians over their line and converting the try to 19-23, now it was getting really exciting!
Keeping the pressure on the surprised Centralian side Beaconsfield then delivered the final last minute strike with a second massive push over try which the referee then awarded as a penalty try, final score 28-23.
One of the best games of rugby for a long time.
