Almost there, only one more match to go! Not sure how I am going to spend Saturdays from now on!
This week saw 3 teams out yet again, the ones away at Trowbridge, the 2;s away at Reading Rams and the 3's at home to Southgate!
I was away with the 1's on my first visit to Trowbridge RFC in what is probably the most impressive clubhouse and facilities in this league and probably many others as well.
The match was a high scoring game which Trowbridge won 35-34 with a last minute penalty try. In honesty, I felt that we should have put the game to bed much earlier, but it is always easy from the side line! The players put in a fantastic effort in this penultimate match after a long, hard season where we have played some superb rugby and really found our feet in this league. Next week we play Wimborne, one place above us and only ahead of us on points difference. A win then and a little bit of luck elsewhere and we will finish 6th in the league and I am confident, that if you had asked anyone at BRFC at the beginning of the season, we would all of taken that as a place to finish!
The seconds continued their magnificent season, by beating the RAM's 60 points to 17 keeping them 2nd behind Bracknell by 2 points and still with a very good chance of promotion.
The 3's put out 32 players against League Champions, Southgate and won 35-15 leaving them in 2nd place. Putting out so many players when we have 3 teams playing, is the highlight of the season for me, if we manage to get back to the halcyon days of 4 teams, we would be the envy of every local club!
Next week, is the last of the season and still lots to play for, as I said before, the 1's face Wimborne at home and the 2's are at home to Thatcham. The 3's have fixed up a special Lads/Dads game away at Ruislip so lots of rugby going on.
We have a big last lunch next Saturday with Ladies Day and our Sponsors Lunch, we are anticipating in excess of 80 people, so if you would like to be amongst them, please be sure to email Mike Wood on email@example.com by Wednesday.
It has been a fantastic season throughout the entire club from mini, through youth and onto seniors. Many local and visiting clubs have commented on what a great place BRFC is to visit, which means an awful lot. This comes from the fantastic membership we have and the spirit of volunteering that operates in every aspect of the club, without volunteers, we are nothing so without putting any names down, I would like to thank every single person that has contributed towards making BRFC such a great place to spend time and enjoy the worlds greatest sport.
Do try and get down next Saturday to watch the last home games of the season, it would be brilliant to make this the biggest crowd of the year. Please get in contact with all your friends, age groups and fellow players and have a brilliant last afternoon.
