Another glorious day at Oak Lodge Meadow yesterday and not simply because the sun was out, although there is no doubt that helped tremendously.
This was Presidents Lunch Day, always a great event at the club and this year was no exception. It was fantastic to see so many old faces and to welcome new ones as well. We had ex players, who had been with the club since its inception and not only were they welcomed with a superb lunch, courtesy of Jane Wood Catering, but they had the opportunity to "invest" in match by for telling the total number of points to be scored, then they were given an excellent synopsis of what the club is doing across the whole playing range by Noel. I believe that everyone, new and old, had a great time even before they stepped outside to watch the rugby.
The ones welcomed Swindon, a team below us in the league, but who beat us on our travels to them. They are a formidable team that worked hard for each other right to the end. However, on this occasion, they came across a very focused and talented BRFC who really wanted to play. Conditions might have been great for spectators and probably our wingers, but I doubt if any of our (or Swindons) forwards would chose the heat and firmness of ground of yesterday!
It did however, make for a great, open game of rugby with some spectacular tries. The final result of 50-12 was probably a fair reflection of the day.
The 2's had no match on this weekend and the 3's had theirs cancelled as the opposition called off, but managed to get a fixture against Old Grammarians which saw the introduction of 3 more colts making their senior debut, bringing this seasons total of debutantes to 48 which, frankly, is surreal, but it is the most positive message we could possibly send out for the future. During his season synopsis yesterday, Noel mentioned that when our colts played Chinnor (and won!), their coach told him that not a single colt has played in the 1's or 2's this season. I fully appreciate that they play at a different level to us, but it strikes me, that BRFC, is a great place for the youngsters to play rugby!
Next week, the 1's are away at Trowbridge, the 2's are away to Redingensians and the 3's are at home to Southgate so still plenty of rugby to watch before the summer break!
Our new Girls squad, is going very well with consistently great numbers and the girls really enjoying themselves. They have 2 sessions left this season, and we will be on a huge recruitment drive over the summer, so if you know any young ladies interested in getting involved, please let us know, they can still join in this season!
In other news, our final weekend on 13th April, will see the 1's at home to Wimborne, the 2's at home to Thatcham and the 3's away to Ruislip in a specially organised match to enable both clubs to get as many Lads and Dads onto the pitch at the same time! We will be holding the Ladies and Sponsors lunch on this day and everyone is welcome. Please get in touch via firstname.lastname@example.org to make this a fantastic end of season day for all.
The BRFC Rugby Raffle is still going strong, with this months winners being Dion Wratten, Idusu Labri and Robbie Waller. You have to be in it to win it, so get involved and sign up via Http://Raffle.BeaconsfieldRFC.uk
Thats about all for this week folks, have a brilliant week and see you on the sideline next Saturday for the penultimate weekend of a brilliant season.
