After the drama of last week, it was great to get back to a normal weekend of rugby, with all 3 teams playing.
Prior to the game, we had lunch as usual, welcoming some new faces as well as some that are long standing club members living away. Always fantastic to see everyone!
The first team were hosting Salisbury at home, the 2nds were away to Bicester and the 3's were away to Old Millhillians.
Sadly, we were unable to do the hatrick this week, despite the very best efforts of coaches and players. When we went down to Salisbury, we scored very late in the game to take the win, alas, it was not to be our day again. We were leading early on, and from the sideline, I was feeling confident. As is the way, it Salisbury, were never about to role over and give us a victory and came back very strongly to take the game 31-19. Whilst, on the day, I guess Salisbury deserved the win, the scoreline does not tell how close this was.
The 2nds however, are on a real roll and hammered Bicester 70-5 leaving us top of the league on points difference with 3 matches to go. Getting the 2nd team up a league is a big part of the clubs plans, so well done lads, great job.
Match of the day was in fact the 3rds who played away at Old Millhillians, the result 24-24 was of little significance, the important part was that again, we had 3 sets of Lads and Dads playing, Aidan and Joe Harmen, Noel and Finn O'Mahoney and Stu and Louis Graham. Joe and Finn both scored as did Louis last week which means that all 3 boys scored on their debuts, you couldn't make it up. Dave Gray also came out of a long retirement to show the boys how it should be done, by all accounts a great day out, enjoyed by all.
The ones only have 4 games left now, 2 home and 2 away, the 2's and 3's both have 3 matches, 2 home and one away. There is no rugby for us next week, but there will ba a whole day of 6 Nations on at the club.
We have 2 more lunches to go, both major events. The Presidents Lunch on the 30th March when the 1's play Swindon, is always a great day and a chance to catch up with ex team mates. The final day of the season on 13th April is Ladies day and the Sponsors lunch. This will probably have in excess of 100 people attending, the more the merrier so do book in, either by replying to this email, or by contacting Mike Wood at firstname.lastname@example.org
Talking of sponsors, we are delighted that Oxygen Barbers have joined us as a new sponsor, they are launching on 22nd March and have a special offer attached. We are always very appreciative of our sponsors and would encourage all members to use them where ever possible!
I hope that everyone enjoys the 6 Nations next Saturday and look forward to seeing you on 23rd March, with the 1's at Stratford Upon Avon, with the 2's at home to Buckingham or with the 3's at home to A&C.
Whichever you decide on, there will be some great rugby to watch.
See you on the touchline.
