There were 3 senior matches this weekend with the 1's travelling to Gloucester to play Old Centralians, the 2's at home to Reading Abbey and the 3's at home to Pinner and Gramarians.
Disappointingly, 13 of the 18 players that were in the 1st team squad against Newbury, were unavailable. To the clubs credit, despite this, we put out 3 teams with the 3rds having 20 players, a really great sign of the health f the club.
The 18 that traveled to Gloucester, were a credit to the club. Up against a very large, physical and skillful side, they absolutely, never gave up. The final score of 56-5 did not reflect the shear effort of the players.
Back at home, the 2's fared better with a bonus point 24-3 win, putting them 2nd in the league. The 3's had an even better day winning 48-0.
Putting out 3 sides, with so many players unavailable through injury etc is a massive achievement and should not be underestimated. Old Centralians often cannot put out 2 sides and have no youth or minis at all. With 16 clubs within the town of Gloucester alone, they do well to field any side at all!
Obviously, lots of International rugby to watch at the moment, with Ireland and Wales winning yesterday, England will need to be on their game to keep their momentum against France.
As you may or not be aware, the European Cup Finals will be held in Newcastle in May with one match on the Friday night and the main event on Saturday. A friend of our Treasurer, Richard Saville has 5 tickets for both matches that he cannot use. He has offered them to members of BRFC at face value, which I believe is £690 for all 10 tickets, if anyone is interested, please contact Richard directly by email to: Richard.Saville@ukgateway.net
I believe that there may even be 2 family rooms reserved in a hotel that could be transfered.
Next week the 1's are at home to Oxford Harlequins, a game that we really should win. The 2's are also at home to Grove and the 3's have a week off. Plenty of rugby to watch and as always, we will be holding our pre-match lunch which I can only but continue to recommend so why not email Mike Wood on email@example.com and make a day of it.
Have a great week and see you on the touch line.
