On a fairly bitter Saturday afternoon, the first XV were at home hosting Stratford Upon Avon. This being the first time we have faced each other, there was an excitement to see how we would get on.
There were no other matches this weekend, with the 2's and 3's having breaks in their league fixtures so following a great turn out for the pre-match lunch, a decent crown came out in the cold to watch the match.
It was clear from the start, when we scored in under 2 minutes, that it wasn't going to be our hardest match all season, but it appeared that no one had told that to the opposition, particularly their full back who had a great game. Despite their best efforts, they couldn't hold Beaconsfield out for long and a second try came fairly quickly. It did feel from the side line that the game was won, and I suspect the same can be said of the players, but Stratford never gave up scoring a couple themselves. They succumbed in the second half with Beaconsfield winning comfortably in the end 45-19 with the bonus point.
In the bar, Tony had taken the initiative and recorder the England v's Australia match to show when the players came in, this went down brilliantly with a huge crowd staying to watch the game.
I returned on Sunday afternoon to watch the Colts v's Banbury, but unfortunately missed the U13', who lost and the U14's who won. I am delighted not to have missed the colts match. Anyone that loves ambition, great running rugby and fearless defence should come and watch the Colts. They were up against a very large, aggressive opposition who were there to win. They say on the TV that defence wins games, well it certainly did in this match, BRFC Colts tackled non stop for the whole game, they refused to be intimidated by the opposition and finally won 11-10 with a penalty at the very end of the match. Well done to all the players and Coaches, a great game.
There are a few things going on off the pitch that you might like to stick in your diaries.
Next Saturday, 1st December the 1st XV are away at Swindon, the 2nd XV are at home to Bicester and the 3rd XV are away to A&C. Kick off's are at 2.30, so do try and go and see one of the matches.
An addition to the fixture list is 22nd December at 2pm when the 1st XV play A&C in the next round of the Bucks Cup. There will be a pre-match lunch as usual, and with this being the last Saturday before Christmas, we would love to get a huge crowd for lunch and an even bigger one on the side line. If you haven't finished your shopping by then, it is too late anyway, so come down and enjoy a brilliant afternoon.
Then comes the most important club day of the year, the Boxing Day, Marrieds V's Singles, always a great way to blow away the cobwebs and run of the Xmas excess. Singles, Captained by try scoring machine, Andy Galligan, will be raiding their mothers/sisters wardrobes again to show us their feminine side, The Marrieds, Captained by Dave Rendell, Dave Jarman and anyone else called Dave, will be in any sort of fancy dress that they can lay their hands on. This is a brilliant event, for the whole family so do come down. Bar open from 9.30am, kick off around 11am free food in the bar afterwards!
I'd like to give you all a brief reminder about the Rugby Raffle, which many club members and family friends have signed up for. At just £10/ticket/month, this is a great way to both help the club and stand a great chance to win you money back, plus more as half of the money is paid out every month in prize money. All you need to do is go to https://raffle.beaconsfieldrfc.uk
and follow the very simple instructions, it takes 2 minutes. Do sign up, it all goes to looking after your club.
I hope that you all have a great week and will see you next Saturday.
