They say a week is a long time in politics, well, it would appear it is also a long time in club rugby!
After the fantastic weather of last week, 3 teams playing and winning, the contrast this week is huge on every front!
I travelled to watch the 1's against Oxford Harlequins on a bitterly cold and wet day. They have a new RFU 4G pitch which looks great, however, they are obviously more used to it than we are. Not an excuse to be honest, but it was not in our favour in these conditions as no matter how fast your wingers are, they are of no use without the ball!
Oxford Harlequins were excellent at closing down our attacks and also good at making ground when they had the ball. It was not the best game of rugby that we will see all season, but some of that must be put down to the conditions. The final score of 28-11 probably flattered them and should have been closer, but hey ho!
The seconds travelled away to Reading Abbey, where I suspect the wind would have been an issue as it has in the past on a cold windy day. Unfortunately, they too succumbed to the opposition losing 15-5.
On a very positive note, on this particular weekend being the end of half term, we have failed to put out a second team for the last few years due people being on holiday, so it says a lot about this season, that we put out 2 very good teams.
Onwards and upwards, next week e have all 3 teams playing. They are all away in rescheduled fixtures due to the fireworks at the club. Please note that there will be absolutely
NO PARKING at the club next Saturday. The front carpark is being used as an outside bar and food hall. Please can anyone coming to the club, park in the Old Town and walk down. The road will be closed and no parking on the verges as 1000's of people will be walking down the road.
The 1's are away at Royal Wootton Basset, the 2's are at Grove and the 3's are at Hemel Hempstead. Kick off will have moved to 2.30pm.
Don't forget that the club will be open for all the internationals etc so do come down and watch - but leave your car elsewhere!
