What an outstanding Super Saturday we had yesterday!
Not only did we have brilliant weather, a fantastic pitch, 3 teams out, some truly excellent rugby, but all 3 teams won!
As with all our home matches, the afternoon kicked off with yet another outstanding lunch from Jane Wood and her team - Just to stress again, these lunches are open to every single adult member of the club, if you would like to join in, just let me know, either as individuals, or why not out a table together!
The 1st XV were playing Old Centralians from Gloucester at home, a team that we have never played before and such is the joy of being in a new league, we had no real idea of what to expect other than the fact that they were riding high in the league table, having won 5 of their 6 games.
As you would expect from a team from the South West, they were a high quality side with some big, talented players who know how to play rugby. However, our squad knows no fear and has an excellent combination of talent, attitude, heart and pace.
With both sides playing some fantastic rugby, it was difficult to pick a winner throughout the game, we scored to excellent wingers tries, through Ryan Morgan and Dan Cady as well as 2 push over tries, the second one coming in the dying minutes of the match, which was awarded as a penalty try securing not only a win, but a4 try bonus point win with the final score 28-23 to Beaconsfield.
Credit to both sides for putting on such a great match and it has to be said that this was probably the best performance by a Beaconsfield team for a long time. If we can continue at the same intensity, we will do very well this season.
The match was refereed brilliantly, by a very young ref. who I suspect will have a great future in the game - Thank you.
On the middle pitch, the 2nd team were playing Bracknell, who up until yesterday, were unbeaten in the league. Having played against Bracknell on several occasions, I can testify that they play a very good and hard brand of rugby and are very difficult to beat. However, no one seemed to have told our 2's that and they recorded a superb win, 46-7. The strength and depth that we have at the club was clearly demonstrated yesterday, with 4-5 players in the 2's who have been in the 1's in recent weeks which is a luxury, we have not had for a while.
Also, clearly demonstrating the current strength of the club, is the fact that yet again, we fielded 3 strong teams with the Bandits away at Pinner with more than enough players. To round of the afternoon, they to recorded a win 17-0. (Apparently, we think it was 22-0!)
This success is not something that just happens, we have a fantastic set of coaches who lead a great set of Captains and players who work tremendously hard to ensure that no matter who is available, we can field teams that can beat anyone they come up against!
Next week, there are no home games, the 1's are away at Oxford Harlequins and the 2's at Reading Abbey. Please do try and get to either match as it always gives the teams a tremendous lift to have some vocal support on the side line.
Saturday 3rd sees the Beaconsfield Round Table Firework display at the club. This is the 50th Anniversary of this great event, from which, every single penny goes directly to charity and local good causes, so if you are deciding where to go to watch the fireworks, it should be an easy decision. The club will be open, the front carpark will be a dedicated food hall and bar so do come down and give all the volunteers from the Round Table, the support that they deserve.
In other news, as a club, we are getting very close to dramatically improving the club house using the money raised through the generosity of members at the BRFC Ball and other events. Watch this space to see what will be happening in the very near future!
Have a great week and see you soon.
