Yesterday the first team travelled to Chippenham and the Bandits travelled away to Southgate RFC in their first league game of the season.
I travelled down to Chippenham, where we received a very warm welcome on a thoroughly miserable day with constant drizzle coming down.
I think that it is fair to say, we did not have our strongest team out due to work, holidays etc, but those that played did so with absolute dedication and a brilliant attitude.
There was no expectation either way as we had no idea what sort of team Chippenham would have, so it was with great satisfaction that we were leading at half time and by then, completely expected to win. Our forwards absolutely dominated at scrum time, winning several penalties, duly converted by Aled, whose boot kept us in front.
Chippenham, have obviously been in this league for a while and with a couple of very big forwards and back, in no way rolled over and indeed came back very strongly in the 2nd 40 to draw the game 26-26. Despite a mild disappointment at drawing a game we could well have won, we should be very positive that we have not lost an away game this season and indeed only narrowly lost at home to Banbury, one of the top teams in the league.
The Bandits were also leading at half time against Southgate, but couldn't hold on, eventually losing 25-14.
Next week, the 1's host Marlborough at home, which will be a very tough match, the 2's are away at Marlow and the 3's are at home to Mill Hill, so plenty of great rugby to watch. Kick off is still 3pm.
We will be having a pre-match lunch from 1pm on Saturday, please do try and come along, all adult club members are very welcome a just £20/head. If you would like to reserve some seats, please do email Mike Wood on email@example.com by Wednesday evening.
That's all for now.
