So here we are, another season gone! I have to say, that t has been a fantastic one, the results haven't always gone our way, but the spirit at the club over the whole weekend has been truly excellent and I have no doubt will continue over the summer.
Last weekend, we had our Ladies Lunch and the normal pre-match lunch with over 70 people involved, which was brilliant.
At this stage, I would like to say an enormous thanks to Jane Wood, Katie Rendell and Sally Wood for their unstinting efforts this year in producing excellent food, for every single lunch and for doing it in such a relaxed manner. Obviously, I would also like to thank Mike Wood who has hosted the lunches and all the generous people that have sponsored them. Thank you one and all.
Following the lunch, we had a choice of matches to watch, with the ones playing Thatcham and the Bandits/Vets playing Thatcham Vets.
Unfortunately, the first team were unable to secure a win, which was a shame as if they had, then they would have beaten every team in the league at least once this season. As it was we lost 32-18 leaving us 7th in the table after all the results came in, a couple of different scores and we would have come in 4th!
The Vets, however, had a fairly easy run out winning 48-0, at least that is when Aidan gave up counting. They did field a very strong side, all vets to be sure, but many of whom should still be playing every week in our 2nds or Bandits at the least!
I believe that the end of season celebrations went on long past my bedtime and having seen a few bodies back at the club on Sunday, I can well believe it!
Sunday saw the last of the junior matches, as usual, testosterone fueled and played at a 100mph. The Under 15's lost to Chesham 17-19 and the Colts beat Henley 36-12.
With the season over, you would think that there was nothing else to say, how wrong you would be!
Firstly, many of you will be aware of the very sad passing of our ex Chairman and President, George Parker peacefully on Easter Sunday. For anyone that would like to go, his funeral is at Amersham Crematorium at 12.15 on Tuesday 2nd May. The family have requested no flowers and for us to wear club ties.
Also, within the last week, we have sadly lost Simon Evans. SImon was one of the "originals" at the club, playing along side Mike Wood and many others.
On a more cheerful note, the Players Dinner is on Friday 5th May and is being organised by Mark Herbert so contact him on email@example.com for more details.
On Saturday 6th May, Beaconsfield Now are holding a fete down at the club from 11-2. We will be playing family touch from 11.30-1 and all are welcome to join in whilst we demonstrate that touch rugby really is for everyone. The bar will be open!
In the evening of the 6th, the Colts will be having their end of season dinner!
Tuesday and Thursday Summer touch will be starting on 2nd May, so no excuses to stop training, the more the merrier!
Not long now until the Lions Tour. All the Saturday matches will be shown live at the club and breakfast will be served. The Tuesday matches might be on, but I suggest that you contact Darren on firstname.lastname@example.org to check in advance.
The new gents Loo will be finished very shortly which will make the whole experience of visiting the club that little bit more pleasant. We will also be revamping the front of the clubhouse over the summer.
On Thursday 13th July, we will be holding the AGM at the club from 8pm. Please put this date in your diaries as we would dearly like to have a fantastic turn out from all club members so that we have representation from every age group throughout the club. We will issue the club accounts and some reports in advance so that you can come armed with questions which will be welcomed, as meaningful questions from members will only serve to help us improve.
It is the people that make BRFC such a great place to be, and I would sincerely like to thank every single person that volunteers their time in a great variety of roles, many doing unseen work. Without you BRFC would not be such a great place.
I would specifically like to thank all our Committee Members who do a huge amount of work behind the scenes, much of which is thankless but needs doing!
To our many Sponsors, you have the thanks of the whole club, without your generous contributions, we would be unable to carryout many of the improvements that we have done this season, and I hope that we can continue to work together for next season.
Last and by no means least, I would like to thank Simon and James, our senior coaches, who do so much more for the club than just coach, and Darren, Jay, Angie and everyone that works behind the bar and in the kitchen for doing such a brilliant job day in and day out.
Until next time.
