As some of you are no doubt aware by now, we had a serious issue on Saturday with Gypsies getting onto the 4x4 carpark trying to force us to pay them to leave. This was a hugely stressful day that could have gone very badly wrong if it were not for the calm heads of a small number of club members. I am not going to list names here in case I miss someone, you know who you are, the whole club owes you thanks.
Just to quell any rumours, the police were in attendance, and did an outstanding job. We paid a Bailiff to issue an eviction notice, which he did and an hour later they left. Job done.
This means that as a club, all of us, need to be hyper vigilant and take responsibility for locking up, never assume that someone else is doing it. As a club, we will review what we can do to minimise future risk.
Enough of the unpleasant side of the weekend, I believe that on the pitches, we had 2 fantastic games of rugby with the 1's playing Royal Wootton Basset and the 2's playing High Wycombe ( as Aylesbury failed to put out a second team!)
The firsts won 22-17 with a 4 try bonus point leaving us 6th in the table and the 2nds won by a massive score against HW, but received a 4 try bonus point result for the drop out of Aylesbury, placing them 2nd in their league, only 2 points off the leaders, Bracknell.
A highlight for me, was seeing Robbie Cartwright making his debut into senior rugby, in the first team, along side his brother Sam, absolutely brilliant.
With only a few matches left, all is to play for for both teams to put us into the very best positions to make next season a great one.
Next week we have 3 matches, the 1's at home to Salisbury, the 2's away to Bicester and the 3's away to Old Millhillians. I believe that with the strength and depth we have at the moment means we should be considering putting 4 teams out. I cannot tell you what a fantastic achievement that would be as 2 years ago, we occasionally struggled to put 2 teams out! This is due to having such an amazing colts set up, which means that we have a great number of lads and Dads in the same team!
Naturally, there is a pre-match lunch before next weeks home game, so as always, get in touch with Mike Wood and book a place on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Lastly, and by no means leastly, I have spent the day today at the Mini Festival, flipping burgers. In spite of the weather and yesterdays issues, this was a brilliant event, organised by Russ Whitlock and his team. 1000+ boys and girls came out to play rugby and had a brilliant time, everyone really enjoyed it. This is a major event for the club and is one of the biggest sporting events in Bucks, we should be very proud of the fact that it is BRFC that is putting this show on, all manned by volunteers from across the club, long may it continue.
That's about it, have a great week and see you on the touchline.
